ESS Symposium Student Paper Award

ESSS 2026 presents the ESS Symposium Student Paper Award to recognize and encourage students who give particularly excellent presentations in regular paper sessions of the ESS Symposium and who are expected to contribute to the future of engineering fields covered by the Engineering Sciences Society.

Award candidates must be students who serve as the primary presenter of a regular paper at ESSS 2026 and who declare their eligibility at the time of submission. For this award, a student refers to a person who has not yet completed a doctoral program, including working professionals enrolled as students, or a person with an equivalent background. Previous recipients of this award are not eligible.

The selection will be conducted by the Selection Committee organized under the responsibility of the General Chair of ESSS 2026. Candidates will be evaluated mainly based on their attitude toward research, including enthusiasm, ingenuity, effort, and sincerity, as well as the clarity of their presentation, including presentation materials, delivery, and responses to questions.

The number of awardees will be approximately the top 5% of eligible presentations. Each awardee will receive a certificate and a monetary prize of JPY 10,000.

Award recipients must attend the award ceremony held during the symposium. The calling of the recipient’s name at the ceremony shall constitute the official notification of the selection result. If the recipient’s presence cannot be confirmed at that time, the award shall be deemed forfeited immediately. The award ceremony is planned for November 1st, the closing day of the symposium.

The list of awardees will be published on the ESS Symposium website after the award ceremony. For further details, please refer to the ESS Symposium Student Paper Award Selection Regulations.
